The aim of building a giant religious monument came from Pedro Maria, a Brazilian Catholic leader in 1850′s . The idea then delivered to Princess Isabel but get rejected.

Brazil changed as Republic in 1889, and had had a new country rule. That is dividing or separating religious matter from state matter.In 1921 The Great Bishop of Rio de Janeiro apparently delivered the idea as Pedro Maria already had in 1850′s, named to make a giant religious monument.

There were some ideas of the monument actually. According to an article I read, one idea of the design was Jesus monument which lift a world-ball on His hand as a pedestal, that represent the world. In the end, a religious monument with Jesus stretched out both His arms were the chosen one.

Cristo Redentor monument or Christ the Redeemer monument has been very popular all over the world. Cristo Redentor has 125 foot tall ( 38 meters high), with weight of more than one thousand tons.

Cristo Redentor was designed in an open stretched arms, overlooking Rio de Janeiro. According to the local society, the open stretched arms of the monument represents the warmth and welcome of the Brazilian.

Lies on Mount Corcovado (710 meters high in Tijuca forest National Park), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Cristo Redentor has become the hugest Jesus Christ statue, in noble art deco style.
