Story behind Cristo Redentor
As I have planned, starting from this month (February 2009) I am going to make posts NOT only about Indonesia, but also about foreign. The idea comes from the stats that I saw in my EC dashboard. To tell you the truth, during my blogwalking – though not so rapid - I met so many blogger friends from other side of the world, and I thankful for that. Besides I have a big interest to know more about the beautiful foreign.
This afternoon, I am gonna post about Cristo Redentor, the story behind the monument, that I found from various source. Here is the summary that I make .
- Cristo Redentor – World Famous Monument of Brazil
The idea of Cristo Redentor appeared since the middle of 1850′s. In that moment, a catholic leader Pedro Maria Boss asked fund from Princess Isabel, to be used to build the biggest religious monument. Only that time, Princess Isabel ignore the idea.
When Brazil changed into Republic in 1889, the country has a new regulation. That is to separate the religion/religious matter apart from state matter.
The idea of building the monument then delivered again, this time by Rio de Janeiro Great Bishop. The Great Bishop alleged an occasion by 1921 which called ‘ Semana do Monumento’ or ‘ monument week’ to attract donaters which commonly were Brazilian Catholics.

Mature designed have been prepared. Including a representation of Christian Cross, a Jesus monument with world-ball in the hand, and a pedestal which represent world. Finally Cristo Redentor, a great monument of Jesus with open arms were chosen and made.
